تحفل المجتمعات القديمة من أهالي الحي بالقصص والطرائف والأساطير، ومنها نذكر: "أن القائد المصري إبراهيم باشا جاء في أحد الأيام يتفقد حي رأس بيروت وإذا بامرأة من آل العيتاني تصعد غلى إحدى المآذن وتشرع بالآذان. فذهل إبراهيم باشا واستنكر الأمر، وأمر بإنزال المرأة وإحضارها، وعندما سألها عن سبب إقدامها على هذه البدعة أجابت: "لقد استوثقتم رجالنا وسقتموهم جنوداً في جيشكم ولم يبق منهم من يقوم بهذه المهمة". فسألها: "ومن لك عندنا؟" قالت: "زوجي وابني وأخي" فأمر الباشا بإحضار هؤلاء وقال لها: اختاري أحدهم نردّه لك". فأمسكت المرأة بكم أخيها وقالت: "رد لي أخي يا سيدى". فسألها: "ولماذا اخترت أخاك دون زوجك وابنك". قالت: "الزوج موجود، والابن مولود أما أخي فإن مات فلن يعود".
حكايات وطرائف، قصص وأخبار، نصائح وأقوال، حكم وأمثال، أمضى سلام الراسي عدّة سنوات يحصدها عن ألسنة الناس الذين مات بعضهم وشاخ البعض الآخر، فذبلت في ذاكرتهم الأحداث والأحاديث. وكان للراسي فضل حفظ هذا التراث الشعبيّ العريق، إذ قام ينفض عنه غبار النسيان ويعيد لقصصه رونقها وجمالها، ولأخباره حلاوتها وطراوتها، جمعها بالفعل "لئلّا تضيع"!
