الأمير عبد القادر ابن محي الدين المعروف بـ عبد القادر الجزائري هو كاتب وشاعر وفيلسوف وسياسي ومحارب، اشتهر بمناهضته للاحتلال الفرنسي للجزائر. ولد قرب مدينة معسكر بالغرب الجزائري يوم الثلاثاء 6 سبتمبر 1808 الموافق لـ 15 رجب 1223 هـ، رائد سياسي وعسكري مقاوم قاد (جيش أفريقيا) خمسة عشر عاما أثناء غزو فرنسا للجزائر هو أيضا مؤسس الدولة الجزائرية الحديثة ورمز للمقاومة الجزائرية ضد الاستعمار والاضطهاد الفرنسي.
خاض معارك ضد الاحتلال الفرنسي للدفاع عن الوطن وبعدها نفي إلى دمشق وتوفي فيها يوم 26 مايو 1883.
