فإن هناك أشخاصاً يضيفون إلى الحياة الكثير ولا يأخذون منها إلا القليل، ويضيء وجودهم حياة من حولهم ويخصم غيابهم الأبدي من جمال الحياة وخيراتها، والأستاذ الدكتور موسى مصطفى العبيدان هو واحد من هذ النوع من البشر، وهو من الذين وصفهم الرسول الكريم -عليه الصلاة والسلام- في حديثه عن الأبرار والصالحين: "هم القوم الذين لا يشقى بهم جليسهم" إنما يسعد ويشعر بالثراء الروحي الذي تفيض به جوانحهم، ويتمنى المرء لو استطاع أن يحذوا حذوهم وينهج نهجهم في الحياة؛ لتزداد خيراتها وتنحسر مساحه الشر والقبح والأنانية فيها؛ ذلك أن أهم ما يتسم به هو السماحة والعفة والإيثار والتواضع وإنكار الذات والعطاء واحترام مشاعر الآخرين.
جميل أن نكرّم العلماء، ونؤمن بعطائهم، ونسير على نهجهم، ونتمثّل قيمهم، ونغترف من علمهم، ومن المؤلم أن يمضي العالم حياته دون أن يسطع نجمه أو يعرفه الناس؛ ليفيدوا من علمه، ومن المؤسف ألا يشاهد العالم تقديرنا وإعتزازنا به إلا ساعة الرحيل.
لذا، كان واجباً علينا أن نكرم هذا العالم موسى بن مصطفى العبيدان، وننشر مجهوداته؛ فقمنا أولاً برصد حياته منذ ولادته مروراً بمراحل التعليم الأولى، ووصولاً إلى تعليمه الجامعي، ومن ثم حصوله على درجة الدكتوراه، وعرّجنا على المناصب الإدارية التي تولاها، ثم عرضنا نتاجه العلمي، اللغوي والأدبي والتاريخي.
