انتهج هذا الكتاب تسلسلاً منهجياً جديداً لدراسة التغيير التنظيمي، حيث استهل الكتاب بمقدمة تعريفية عن دورة حياة منظمات الأعمال وبيئة منظمات الأعمال والضغوط البيئية على هذه المنظمات، مع تقديم شرح موجز لأنماط التفاعل التنظيمي مع هذه البيئات.
من بعد ذلك بدأ الكتاب في عكس الإطار المفاهيمي الذي يحيط بالتغيير التنظيمي والذي تم التركيز فيه بشكل أساسي على التعريف بالتغيير التنظيمي وعلاقته ببعض المتغيرات الإدارية، والتعريف كذلك بمدارس ومصادر التغيير التنظيمي.
وفق منهجية التغيير التي اقترحها الكتاب؛ ابتدر الكتاب بالتعريف بالخيوط الإستراتيجية والتي تنسج الأفق العام للتغيير والتي تحدد (كيف وأين) تتجه المنظمة عندما تفكر في الشروع في تنفيذ عمليات التغيير التي تنتظم جميع أركان المنظمة.
بعد تحديد التوجه الاستراتيجي للتغيير؛ تدرج الكتاب في شرح أنماط التدخل المختلفة لإحداث التغيير المرسوم في شكله الإستراتيجي، ومن بعد ذلك شرع الكتاب في توصيف المشاكل التي تلازم أكثر عناصر المنظمة أهمية وخطورة وهو العنصر البشري، وإستعراض الحلول المنهجية لمثل هذه المشاكل وذلك من خلال استعراض نماذج وعمليات التطوير التنظيمي.
أخيراً؛ يأتي تنفيذ المشهد الكامل للتغيير ممثلاً في عمليات وأساليب إدارة التغيير والتي تأخذ في الإعتبار جميع الأسس والمنهجيات النظرية السابقة، مع تخصيص باب كامل يكشف عن البعد الإنساني والسلوكي لإدارة التغيير التنظيمي كمقدمة منطقية لإدارة التغيير التنظيمي، وذلك إيماناً من بأهمية العنصر البشري في نجاح أو فشل العملية التغييرية، ثم من بعد ذلك؛ عمل الكتاب على التوثيق لنماذج ونظم إدارة التغيير التنظيمي.
واختتم الكتاب سلسلته بالنظر في مستقبل التغيير مع إعطاء مساحة مناسبة للعناصر البيئية الملازمة لحياة منظمات الأعمال، وتلك التي تفرض التغيير على مسيرة هذه الحياة.
