يتضمن الكتاب مدخلاً عاماً حول بعض المفاهيم والمصطلحات الاستراتيجية والتعبوية التي سيتم تداولها في البحث بالاضافة لمراحل نشوء سلاح الجو العراقي قبل التاسيس وبعده في 22 نيسان(ابريل) 1931 وحتى عام 1958 مستذكرا بعض الادوار التعبوية الداخلية للاسراب العاملة قبل الحرب العربية الاسرائيلية الاولى 1948،،..ويتضمن الفصل الثاني القدرات والادوار الاستراتيجية لسلاح الجو العراقي للفترة 1948 – 1975 اوضحت من خلالة دور سلاح الجو العراقي مع اسلحة الجو العربية في الحرب العربية الاسرائيلية الاولى – 1948- 1949 من الاردن وسوريا ومصر ثم دوره في الحرب العربية الاسرائيلية الثانية 5 حزيران(يونيو) 1967 والثالثة في 6 تشرين اول(اكتوبر)1973 من سوريا ومصر ثم تناول المبحث الثالث اهم ادوار سلاح الجو في مواجهةحركات الامن الوطني في ثورة الشواف وثورة 8 شباط 1963 وحركات التمرد شمال العراق ،وتخلل هذا الفصل العديد من الاستنتاجات والدروس المستنبطة ذات العلاقة بهذه المرحلة المهمة من تاريخ سلاحنا الجوي .
الفصل الثالث …ناقشت فيه دور سلاح الجو العراقي في الحرب العراقية الايرانية من خلال اربعة مباحث مبتدءً بالصراع العراقي الايراني في عهود سبقت الثورة الايرانية واستلام الخميني والدور الذي لعبته هذه الثورة في تاجيج النعرات الطائفية والشوفينية وتهديدها باسقاط النظام الوطني العراقي من خلال مبدأ تصدير الثورة الايرانية ،موضحاً لبعض الجهود السياسية العراقية المبذولة في تجنب الحرب التي سعت اليها ايران التي ابتدءت في 4 ايلول 1980 ولم يكن العراق يوماً يسعى لها كما تروج له وسائل الاعلام المعادية ودليلنا في ذلك هو عدم اخذ الاحتياطات الازمة من قبل القيادة السياسية والعسكرية لهذا الاحتمال .
