في كتابه "جوهر الثقافة الصنية" يحدد الكاتب الصيني لو إيولي موقع ثقافة بلاده العريق في حضارات العالم على مرّ التاريخ، ويعتبر أن الصين المعاصرة دون موروثها الثقافي التقليدي لا بدّ أن تذوب في ثقافات البلدان الأخرى. لذلك يحث الصينيين على التمسك بثقافتهم الأصلية وإلا فستختفي على الرغم من تدويلها. ويعبّر عن هذا الفكر بالقول: "فإذا أردنا بقاء الثقافة الصينية، فلا بد من العودة إلى تقاليد ثقافية لآلاف السنين بدلاً من الانفصال أو الاستغناء عنها. إن الوعي الثقافي هو الجذر الثقافي نحو التقاليد... لا يجب الاعتقاد بأن العولمة هي أن نكون مثل الآخرين، فإذا كنت مثلهم، فسيحتقرك الآخر تماماً، وستبقى دائماً في أعقاب الآخرين، لأن ما تمتلكه ليس شيئاً أصيلا. إن الثقافة التقليدية هي فقط الأصل".
يحتوي الكتاب على موضوعات ذات صلة بالثقافة الصينية التقليدية، مروراً بتطورها في الوجدان الجماعي للصينيين نحو ثقافة أكثر تقدماً تهتم بالعلوم ومنها الرياضيات والمنطق والطبيعة والفلسفة والتربية وغيرها، وبهذا يتعرف القارئ من خلالها على جوهر الثقافة الصينية بما فيها من علوم وأديان وأفكار تأملية وميتافيزيقية في الصين القديمة والحديثة.
من أقوال السيد لو إيولي الرائعة نقرأ: ● الثقافة سلاح ذو حدين، تحتوي على جوانب جيدة وجوانب سيئة، لذلك فهي تعتمد في الأساس على كيفية استخدام الإنسان لها.
●الثقافة الصينية دائماً ما تدعو "للحياد"، وتؤكد على المساواة والتوازن. إن تواصل الثقافات لا يقتصر فقط على التواصل فحسب، بل ينطوي أيضاً على المنافسة.
●تؤكد الكونفوشيوسية على تقويم الذات، ووضع الآخرين في المقام الأول وإنكار الذات، ومن خلال ضبط النفس وتطبيق الطقوس يمكن للمرء أن يصبح قديساً، وهذا هو روح الثقافة الصينية.
● في رأيي، أكثر ما يحتاجه المجتمع هو الاحترام والعدالة والأمانة والحياء.
