وُلِد "لوتريامون" - صاحب أناشيد مالدورور - عام 1846 ومات عام 1870 ولمّا يبلغ الخامسة والعشرين من عمره، مخلِّفاً وراءه تراثاً أدبياً ما زال الشغل الشاغل للكثيرين من النقاد والأدباء حتى يومنا هذا.
كان "لوتريامون" - واسمه الحقيقي إيزودور دوكاس - مخلوقاً غريب الأطوار غريب التكوين، فقد كان طويلاً نحيلاً محدوباً، أشعث الشعر، أجش الصوت، ناتئ الصدغين، في لسانه حبسة وتلفّه كآبة ظاهرة.
وكان دائم الصداع مؤرَّقاً لا يعرف النوم، وإذا ما أغفى فعلى كوابيس رهيبة أين من رهبتها الأرق المُمِض، لقد ذكر حالته تلك في أناشيده، فوصف ضعفه الجسدي والنفسي وحرمانه تذوق مباهج الحياة وقطف ثمار الحب والهوى والشباب، ونعمة النوم والرقاد... "سعيد من يغرق في سبات عميق ساعة يضع رأسه على مخدته، ها إني منذ يوم ولادتي المشؤوم أعاني من الأرق الذي نذر أن يجرف دائماً أعضائي إلى أعماق الحفرة التي تنبعث منها منذ الآن رائحة المقابر" فأي عبقري كان "لوتريامون"؟ إقرأ أناشيده يأتك الجواب.
