تعاني المكتبة العربية نقصاً في الثقافة السينمائية، بالمقارنة مع الفنون الأخرى، وإذا كان النقد السينمائي العربي قد واكب إنتشار السينما منذ أن كانت صامتة في العشرينات، فإنّ الثقافة السينمائية المتخصصة ظلت تعتمد على مبادرات شخصية في التأليف والتجربة، وانحسرت موجة الدوريات السينمائية المهمة، بينما اتسعت دائرة الصحافة الخفيفة التي لا يهمها من الثقافة السينمائية إلا الأضواء والألوان وأخبار النجوم والفصائح، وإذا كانت الثقافة السينمائية لا تنحصر في الكتب السينمائية، فإنّ الكتب، على إختلاف أنواعها، هي الركيزة الأساسية، إلى جانب المتحف السينمائي والأندية السينمائية والصحافة السينمائية والمهرجانات والأسابيع السينمائية.... والأدب السينمائي.
ماذا يحدث، مثلاً، لو تحولت كل صالات العروض السينمائية إلى صالات لعرض أي شيء آخر، في بلد ما؟ ربما سيكون الجواب هو العودة بالحياة إلى منتصف القرن التاسع عشر... وهذا يعني غياب حياة واسعة ونظريات ومفاهيم عن جماليات السينما واللغة السينمائية وثقافة الصورة وغياب إيقاع الحياة نفسها.
إن ما يثير الإنتباه في هذا الكتاب هو الأسس والقواعد والخطوات العملية التي اكتسبها المؤلف من تجاربه الخاصة وخبرته الطويلة في العمل وهذا ما يدفعني إلى الإعتقاد بأن هذا الكتاب يعطي كاتب السيناريو معلومات إضافية، يستفيد منها الكاتب المحترف والمبتدئ والقارئ العادي، كما أن الفصول التي أفردها المؤلف حول الشخصية وتكوينها وبنائها وخلقها والتركيز عليها تفيد كاتب القصة والروائي والكاتب المسرحي وكل العاملين في مجالات السينما والمسرح والتلفزيون والإذاعة...
