التوسُّل هو: اتخاذ الوسيلة التي يتوصل بها إلى المطلوب وأعظم ذلك وأفضله التوسُّل إلى الله بالأعمال الصالحة، أي بفعل ما أمر به وترك ما نهى عنه، والتوسل على وجوه: [1]- منها المشروع [2]- ومنها الممنوع والمقصود بالتوسُّل في حديثنا هو التوسُّل إلى الله بالدعاء، فالتوسُّل إلى الله بدعائه يكون مشروعًا على وجهين: [1]- توسُّل إلى الله بأسمائه وصفاته كقول العبد: أسألك اللهم برحمتك، وقوله: اللهم اغفر لي إنك أنت الغفور الرحيم، وما أشبه ذلك.
