نسوق هذا الحديث بصفة خاصة إلى المدرسين، وطلبة كليات ومعاهد المعلمين، وإلى المهتمين اهتماماً شديداً بما تؤديه مدارسنا لكي يساعدهم على أن يعيدوا النظر في التزاماتهم الحاضرة، وأن يعيدوا بناءها إذا اقتضت الضرورة، وهو معد بحيث يساعدهم على أن يجتهدوا بالتدريج إلى الإقرار، أولا بأن طريقة التفكير - طريقة النشاط الفكري التأملي - هي طريقة التعليم، وأن يتجهوا - ثانياً - إلى فهم أعمق وسيطرة أتم على الطرق الفنية التي تجعل في الإمكان خلق المواقف التي تدفع بالأفراد إلى التفكير، وأن يتجهوا - ثالثاً - إلى المسلك الذي يعتبر عملية البحث والتحري آئمن ما يمتلكه الأحرار.
فإذا نظرنا إلى الفصول الدراسية بصفة خاصة فإن هدف هذا الحديث هو أن يساعد الدارسين على أن يؤدوا ما يلتزمونه الآن - شفهياً على الأقل - بفهم أكبر وشعور بالأمن أعظم - ونعني به تنمية قدرة كل طالب وسيلة إلى أن يفكر لنفسه على وجه الاستقلال، ولا يتوقع المؤلفان أي تغيير مباشر أو أساسي، لا في المدارس ولا في الثقافة، ذلك لأن التغلب على العادات ليس بالأمر الهين، إلا أنهما مع ذلك يدركان أن تحسين المدارس والثقافة أمر مرغوب، ويأملان أن تتحقق بعض الخطوات النابهة بسرعة.
