لا يخفى على المعتنين بالعلم الشرعي أهمية كتب العلّامة محمد بن أحمد السفّاريني ومكانتها العلمية الرفيعة، ومع هذا لا يزال بعضها في عداد المفقودات، مع أن زمنه قريب من زماننا بعض الشيء، ومن هذه الكتب كتابنا هذا الذي كان يعد إلى وقت قريب من كتبه المفقودة حتى يسّر الله الوقوف عليه، وهو عبارة عن أسئلة وجّهها أهل نجد إلى المؤلف رحمه الله يسألونه عمّا أشكل عليهم؛ إذ كانت الشام في تلك الأزمنة منارة للطالبين ومزارًا للراغبين في دراسة مذهب الحنابلة، كذلك كان إذا عَنَّ لهم شيء أو حدثت لهم نازلة بادروا بمكاتبة علماء المذهب هناك. وسجّلت لنا كتب التاريخ والتراجم نماذج منها تبين مدى التواصل بين المشتغلين بالعلم، مع ضعف وسائل الاتصال وقتها وقلة الإمكانات، وهذا اللون من التأليف له فوائد كثيرة؛ فعلاوةً على كونه إجابة عن السؤالات وكشفًا للمشكلات يصلح أن يكون وثيقة تاريخية تبين ما يدور في الأوساط العلمية وما يشغل الرأي العام في تلك الحقبة.
