إن هذه الرسالة، وإن كان موضوعها في بيان حكم فقهي، فهذا لا يعني أنه لا علاقة لها بما هو أسمى من ذلك وأعلى، ألا وهو التوحيد وإخلاص العبادة لله وحده ودعائه تعالى دون سواه، ومن المعلوم أن الاعتقاد بأن الموتى يسمعون، هو السبب الأقوى لوقوع كثير من المسلمين اليوم في الشرك الأكبر، ألا وهو دعاء الأولياء والصالحين وعبادتهم من دون الله عز وجل، جهلاً أو عناداً، ولا ينحصر ذلك في الجهّال منهم، بل يشاركهم في ذلك كثير ممن ينتمي إلى العلم، وهذا الأمر كان هو الباعث على تأليف هذه الرسالة وذلك ليمهد المؤلف من خلالها للقضاء على هذه الضلالة الكبرى، ألا وهي الاستغاثة بغير الله تعالى، على اعتبار أن السبب الأقوى الموجب لها عند من ضل من المسلمين، إنما هو الاعتقاد بأن الموتى يسمعون، فإذا تبين أن الصواب أن الموتى لا يسمعون، لم يبق حينئذ معنى لدعاء الموتى من دون الله تعالى.
