يتناول حياة وأعمال الفيلسوف والعالم والمفكر المشرقي لوقيان الذي فتحت له بلاد مصر أبوابها، وبها نال شهرة واسعة وأبدية، وتأثيره على التراث الإنساني.
يأتي الكتاب في سياق الرد على ما قام به الغرب خلال ثلاثة قرون من تشويهات وتلفيقات لمجمل التاريخ الإنساني؛ وعلى الأخص تاريخ المنطقة العربية وأوروبا، حيث يسعى إلى رد الاعتبار إلى لوقيان، كما يتناول تاريخ بلاد الشام وقرطاج، ويتطرق إلى أسبقية المصريين والسوريين والقرطاجيين على الإغريق والرومان في قضايا أساسية مثل الفلسفة والاستكشافات الجغرافية؛ بل وحتى المسرح والهندسة مستشهدًا بأدلة حاسمة في هذا الأمر، ومن خلال وثائق تاريخية تُنشر ويُكتب عنها لأول مرة في التاريخ العربي.
ولد لوقيان السميساطي Lucian of Samosata حوالي سنة 125م في مدينة سميساط ببلاد الشام، ومات بين سنة 175 و180م، وهو عالم وفيلسوف ومفكر وكاتب ساخر، وكان موسوعة زمانه، فكتب للعامة وللفلاسفة والشعراء والأدباء، وكان كتابه "قصة حقيقية" هو أول قصة في الخيال العلمي في التاريخ البشري.
وكان لوقيان أول من قام بدراسة عميقة لما يسمى بالفكر اليوناني وأساطيرهم وهدم كل ما تسمى بالمناهج والمدارس الفلسفية اليونانية وحطم كل خرافاتهم، كاشفًا عن حقيقيقة الدور الذي لعبه المشرق في بناء الفكر الإنساني.
