بعد أن قمنا بإصدار الروايات الثلاث بأجزاء منفصلة نعود لضمها في كتاب واحد بناء لرغبات الكثيرين من الذين اطلعوا عليها بأجزائها الثلاث واعجبوا بهذا الإنتاج الأدبي الكبير، ولأهمية توحيده في كتاب واحد. وبذلك أيضاً نكون قد قدمنا للقارئ العربي واحداً من الآثار الروائية العالمية الخالدة، لا يقلل من قيمتها ومنزلتها بين روائع الأدب العالمي إنها كتبت منذ أكثر من ثلاثين سنة، بل على العكس من ذلك فإن في هذا بالضبط خلودها فضلاً عن أن جيلاً كاملاً من شبابنا العربي قد أتم دورته، ولا بد أن يتعرف إلى ذلك الزمن الغربي -زمن الاستعمار العتيق- والكفاح البطولي الشاق الذي تحمله الجيل السابق آنذاك. وقد يكون في ذلك بعض العزاء والتشجيع. للجيل الحاضر في مواجهة تحدياته الخاصة المختلفة شكلاً، المتفقة مضموناً.
وإذا كانت ترجمة الأجناس الأدبية -عموماً- عملاً صعباً وغير مستحب لأن أي عمل أدبي يفقد أثناء انتقاله من لغته الأصلية إلى اللغة الجديدة كثيراً من روجه وأسراره. وقادر على إعادة نقل الروح من جسد وزرعها في جسد آخر حية، وحيوية بدقة طبيب ومهارة فنان.
