بأمر من سلطان عمان، السيد سعد بن سلطان، أبحرت السفينة "سلطانة" من مسقط متجهة الى مدينة نيويورك لتصل اليها في صبيحة يوم الخميس الثلاثين من شهر إبريل عام 1840، مؤذنة بوصول أول مبعوث عربي وأول سفينة الى السواحل الأمريكية.
