يسعدني أن أقدم للقراء الأعزاء هذا الكتاب الموسوعي الذي يقع في خمسة أجزاء، والذي يتناول موقف "الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية من الاستقلال والعزلة إلى سيادة العالم"، حيث يتناول تاريخها وأوضاعها على مدى قرنين ونصف من الزمان، حتى عامنا هذا 2001م.
وقد عاونني على الإبحار في هذا المحيط الخضم، ممارسات وتجارب عملية على مدى أربعين عاماً، قضيتها في خدمة السلك الدبلوماسي المصري، من بينها ست سنوات حاسمة في تاريخ مصر والعالم، من 1967 حتى 1973، شغلت فيها منصب "مدير إدارة أمريكا الشمالية" بوزارة الخارجية. إذ أتاحة لي الظروف أن أكون شاهداً على مجريات السياسة الأمريكية وبعض ما أنطوت عليه من خبايا وأسرار.
وبرغم اتساع المدى الزمني لهذه الموسوعة، فقد التزمت الموضوعية والوضوح حتى تتاح للقارئ فرصة التعرف على تطورات تاريخ الولايات المتحدة -بل وعلى ملامح تاريخ العالم من خلال الصورة الأمريكية- والدور الذي قامت وتقوم به حتى الآن على المستوى العالمي.
وفي الوقت نفسه حرصت على إلقاء أضواء كاشفة على المخططات والأساليب السياسية والعسكرية والاقتصادية التي انتهجتها أمريكا- وبخاصة خلال العقود الخمسة التي أعقبت الحرب العالمية الثانية، حتى تمكنت من تحقيق أهدافها الاستراتيجية، والهيمنة على مقدرات العالم، مع خواتيم القرن العشرين، في صيغة ما يسمى "النظام العالمي الجديد".
