تعدّ مادة التاريخ الأندلسي من المواد المهمة في مناهج أقسام التاريخ، لما لها من علاقة وثيقة بتراث العرب وحضارتهم في الأندلس، حيث وصلوا إلى قمة تفوقهم العسكري والسياسي والحضاري. ولهذا فقد كان من الضروري أن يتوفر بين أيدي الطلبة هذا الكتاب المنهجي. الذي يمثل الحدّ الأدنى لما يجب أن يطلعوا عليه لدراسة هذا التاريخ المجيد.
يتألف الكتاب من خمسة أبواب تنقسم إلى فصول عديدة. وقد قام المؤلفون بتأليف حصصهم من هذا الكتاب على النحو التالي: كتب الدكتور "عبد الواحد ذنون طه" الباب الأول، الذي يتضمن فتح العرب لإسبانيا واستقرارهم فيها، ويتألف من أربعة فصول، كما كتب أيضاً الباب الثاني وهو عن عهد الإمارة في الأندلس، ويشمل ثلاثة فصول وقام الدكتور "ناطق صالح مطلوب" بكتابة الباب الثالث، وهو عن عهد الخلافة في الأندلس، ويتألف من أربعة فصول. وكتب أيضاً الفصلين الأول والثاني من الباب الرابع عن سقوط الخلافة في الأندلس وعصر الدويلات وملوك الطوائف. وكتب الدكتور خليل إبراهيم صالح السامرائي، الفصل الثالث والرابع والخامس من الباب الرابع. وهذه الفصول تتحدث عن المرابطين والموحدين في الأندلس، ومملكة غرناطة والمسلمين بعد سقوط غرناطة. كما كتب أيضاً الباب الخامس، وهو عن حضارة العرب في الأندلس، يتألف من ثلاثة فصول.
