يتعرض الفلاحون في حوران إلى مظالم كبيرة من الدولة ومن البدو أيضاً، وهناك قلة من الدروز والمسيحيين يموتون في القرية التي يولدون فيها، فهم غير مستقرين دائماً، ولا تهدأ أحوال العائلات هناك أبداً، بل يبقون في حالة تنقل مستمر، ويكون موقف الشيخ منهم معتدلاً في السنة الأولى حين يأتون من مكان آخر، لكن غضبه يتزايد مع الأيام فينتقلون إلى قرية أخرى ربما سمعوا من أقاربهم أنهم يعيشون فيها بشكل معقول، لكنهم سرعان ما يكتشفون أن الأوضاع متشابهة في كل البلاد، لا تقتصر المضايقات أحياناً على الجوانب المادية بل تشمل مواقف عدائية من جانب الشيخ لهم، أو من أحد المتنفذين في القرية، ويكون الحل في الإرتحال عن القرية.
وهكذا لا ينقطع الترحال، ولهذا يصعب أن تجد الكثير من البساتين والأشجار المثمرة في قرى حوران، قال لي أحد الفلاحين حين سألته لماذا لا يزرعون الأراضي: (هل تريدنا أن نزرع للآخرين؟)، وكان يقصد الذين يأتون إلى تلك القرى في الربيع والصيف.
