على الرغم من مرور أكثر من خمسين سنة على صدور رواية "الساعة الخامسة والعشرون" للكاتب الروماني فيرجيل جيورجيو، إلا أنها لا تزال أكثر تعبيراً عن واقع الناس في كل زمان ومكان، فما يجري اليوم يكشف لنا حقيقة عميقة عن الطريق الذي سلكته البشرية وكل متمسك بإيمانه وبطريقه وكل أصبح على مقربة من الساعة الخامسة والعشرين. الإنسان اليوم أشبه ببطل رواية "الساعة الخامسة والعشرون" ذلك الذي تحول إلى إنسان يبحث عن نور في نهاية النفق ينتقل من سجن إلى سجن آخر أكثر وحشية حين يجد نفسه محني الظهر أمام الآلة، لا يتوفر له أي فسحة من التفكير والتأمل، وهنا يداهمه الإحساس بأنه دخل في الساعة الخامسة والعشرين، تلك الساعة التي تفجرت فيها الحضارة المدنية والثورة التقنية وحوّلت البشر إلى مجرد أرقام وآلات وأوراق وأختام.

والرواية تمثل أنموذجاً حقيقياً للإنسان المعاصر الذي يحيا بين فكي الآلة وتسارع الوقت والأحداث والدوران حول الذات. في رواية جيورجيو صور لملايين الناس وهم يقتلون بوحشية في الحروب التي كانوا وقوداً لها ولا يعلمون كيف ولماذا ومن أشعلها، وهي أحد أهم الروايات التي تدين الحروب وما ينجم عنها. إنها إدانة للظالمين والفاسدين، وعطف على المضطهدين والمقهورين. هي لوحة من واقع تخللته ألوان الطبائع المختلفة، فبينها الإنسان الصابر على الضيم المحبّ رغم كل شيء، والزوجة الوفية لزوجها إلى المنتهى، وبينها الكاهن الصالح الأب الذي يفتش عن أبنائه المخطوفين، والكاتب الصاحي الضمير الذي يدوّن ما يرى. والقانوني الذي عرف بعد الخبرة كيف ينزل إلى مستوى الناس العاديين ليشاطرهم أوجاعهم، وبينها أيضاً شخصيات يائسة ضاع حلمها ما أدى إلى انتحارها، ومنها العسكري الذي يفتري على الضعفاء طمعاً في مكسب خسيس، ومنها المرأة الثرية التي اكتشفت أن المال لا يستطيع شراء الحرية، ومنها الأسيرة التي باعت جسدها شوقاً إلى حرية موعودة ... الخ. شخصيات متعددة، تعدد وجوه الحياة التي نحياها تحفل بها الرواية، زد على ذلك ما نجده من وصفٍ تفصيلي لبعض الحالات النفسية مما يحدث في السجون والمعتقلات، مثل صحبة جريح أمام جثة، وسط المجانين وغير ذلك من مشاعر القلق، والذعر، والإنتظار، والأمل، والنسيان، والحيرة واليأس.

هذه الرواية تحولت إلى فيلم سينمائي عام 1967 قام فيه أنتوني كوين بدور جوهان بطل الرواية، وكم من جوهان في عالمنا اليوم، وكم من يوشك أن تدق ساعته الخامسة والعشرون.
