أفخر كمسلم موحد بالله بانتمائي لبلد الوحدة الوطنية فيه حقيقة تفرضها استحقاقات التاريخ والجغرافيا والثقافة، كما أن الفقاعات الطائفية، هنا وهناك، ترف لا نقدر عليه ورفاهية لا نملك الوقت اللازم لها، يكفي أن كلمة "قبطي" تعني حرفياً ولغوياً وتاريخياً، الشخص المصري وليس المسيحي، وبالتالي حتى المسلم المصري هو في الأصل قبطي.
وبالطبع عندما دخل الإسلام مصر، وليس مهماً هنا أن تندلع تلك الخناقة الشهيرة بين من يرونه "فتحاً" ومن يرونه "غزواً" بل يكفي أن ننظر إليه باعتباره تطوراً حضارياً لافتاً للنظر في مسيرة شعب عظيم، أقول: إنه مع اعتناق معظم المصريين الإسلام وتحولهم إلي "مسلمين" تحولت كلمات "قبط" و "قبطي" و "أقباط" تدريجياً إلي مفردات لغوية تخص المسيحيين المصريين ممن ظلوا محتفظين بديانتهم الأصلية، في ظل ديانة جديدة يرفع كتابها مبدأ "لا إكراه في الدين".
