ورغم أن المرأة سعيدة القلب (هكذا أسميتها في تلك اللحظة لأني كنت أجهل إسمها)، كشرت في وجهي في لحظة ملامسة حاسة الموت في أصابعي لخدها، إلا أني شعرت، بحس عميق، أنها صيدي المقبل، الذي لن يحتاج للكثير من المطاردة، ببساطة لأنها كانت مبلبلة بشوق لن يحسه غيري، لأنه كان يبلغ درجة الموت الذي لا يقرره القدر.
لقد نظرت في عينيّ للحظة فقط، لحظة مستقطعة ومسقطة من تأريخ العالم الآخر، لتعرف أني قدرها الغاشم الذي ما من حيلة لدفعه... ولكن أيضاً، الذي لن تكتمل ذاتها من دون كارثته.
وكما قالت لي فيما بعد، عقب تعارفنا وتحولنا إلى صديقين حنونين، (لقد شعرت في تلك اللحظة أنك طوقي المحكم الذي لن أستطيع الموت من دونه... كما إني عرفت لحظتها أني لم أكن لأموت لو لم تظهر في ذلك اليوم).
