نهدف في هذا الكتاب أن نساهم في تطوير مناهج النّقد الأدبيّ وأن نجيب عن سؤال جوهريّ: كيف نحلّل نصاً أدبيّاً من زاوية تُعنى بالحجاج وأساليبه؟ فلا إغراق في التّنظير بل تغليب التطبيق ونزوع واضح جليّ إلى التّحليل والتّأويل.
وحسبنا أن نذكر بأنّ كلّ نصّ هو خطاب طرفاه باثّ ومتلقّ وأنّ تحليل الحجاج فيه يفرض بالضّرورة إدراك رؤية الباثّ أو فكرته الرّئيسيّة أو أطروحته الّتي يدافع عنها ويحاول الإقناع بها. لننظر فيما بعد في ضروب الحجج وطرائق الإستدلال الّتي يعتمدها في خطابه وفي مختلف الرّوابط الحجاجيّة الّتي تصل بين الحجج وبين أقسام الخطاب ومفاصله على أنّ تأويل النّصوص في هذا الإطار لا يكون بدوره مقنعاً ما لم يتفطّن إلى خاصيّة أساسيّة في كل خطاب حجاجيّ ونقصد ("الحواريّة" أو "التّحاوريّة").
فيلتفت عندها إلى النّصوص الّتي يستدعيها الباثّ ويستحضرها في خطابه يحاورها ويُجادلها وإلى كلّ حجاج مضادّ يعمل الباثّ على دحض دعائمه وتقويض أركانه ولو بشكل خفيّ غير مباشر.
