يقول الإمام علي بن أبي طالب -كرم الله وجهه- في تصنيفه لأنواع البشر: "الناس ثلاثة، عالم رباني، ومتعلم على سبيل النجاة وهمج رعاع أتباع كل ناعق لم يستضيئوا بنور ولم يلجاؤوا إلى ركن وثيق".
ويقول إبن رشد: "تجارة الدين هي التجارة الأكثر رواجاً في المجتمعات التي يسود فيها الجهل"
ويقول العز بن عبد السلام: "من أراد أن يعرف المتناسبات والمصالح والمفاسد راجحها ومرجوحها فليعرض ذلك على عقله، بتقدير أن الشرع لم يرد به ثم يبني عليه الأحكام، فلا يكاد حكم منها يخرج عن ذلك إلا ما تعبد الله به عباده ولم يقفهم على مصلحته أو مفسدته"
ويقول الشيخ الشعراوي -رحمة الله عليه-: "جاء الإسلام في بداياته ليجمع ولكنه الآن يفرق بين العباد. فالمذاهب الرعناء والطوائف الحمقى والفئات التي إتخذت من دين الله، كل طائفة أخذت لون تعصبت له ولم ترى الإسلام إلا فيه، بل ربما تسامى بها الأمر أو تنازل بها الأمر لدرجة أنها تكفر المذاهب الأخرى ... تلك قضية جعلت الإسلام الآن وسيلة تفريق لا وسيلة تجميع".
ولهذا يرى الكاتب محمد وجدي شاهين أن تاريخنا يحكم حاضرنا ويشكل مستقبلنا، فمن أعطى نعمة العقل لزاماً عليه أن يتدبر في تاريخه وأن يعتبر من حاضره لإن دليل الحمد على نعمة العقل، هي في إعمال العقل بالتدبر والتفكير فيما يأتينا من أفكار ومعتقدات إنسانية ... إن دليل الحمد على نعمة العقل هي في إستخدامنا لعقولنا حتى لا نصبح فرداً في قطيع إرتضى أن يستبدل وطنه بجماعته بعد أن إرتضى أن يستبدل دينه بعقيدة إنسانية.
إن جمهورية الخرفان هي دولة تقوم على الفرقة وتجمع داخلها أتباع كل ناعق ممن لم يستضيئوا بنور ولم يركنوا إلى ركن وثيق من فهم صحيح الدين لتصبح تجارة الدين هي الرائجة في هذه الجمهورية بعد أن تعصبت كل طائفة إلى عقيدتها ولم ترى الإسلام إلا فيه، فأختلط عليهم الأمر ولم يستطيعوا أن يفرقوا بين المصالح والمفاسد عندما إرتضوا أن تغيب عقولهم وأن يصبحوا كحبات المسبحة في أيدي أميرهم ومرشدهم يحركهم كيفما يشاء.
