تميز هذا الإصدار لكتاب العروض لابن جني بأنه قدَّم أقدم وأوثق مخطوطة تتضمن القراءة الصوتية الموضوعية للغة العربية ، حيث يبدو أن ابن جني ألزم ناسخ هذه المخطوطة بنقل قراءته للشواهد الشعرية العروضية نقلاً صوتيًّا ، يلتزم فيه بالإقلاب والإدغام والمد والوقف وفق قواعد القراءة العربية الصحيحة التي تعرَّفنا عليها في كتب النحو والصرف واللغة والقراءات القرآنية . وقد أفادت هذه المخطوطة بما تتضمنه من صورة صوتية للقراءة العربية - في تأسيس علم قراءة اللغة العربية ، حيث كشف بها المحقق عن وحدة قواعد قراءة اللغة العربية . وتتمثل قيمة هذا الكتاب - من ناحية ثانية - في أن ابن جني استخدم طريقة المقاطع الصوتية التي تنتهي بساكن ، حيث تكتب محمَّدٌ : مُحـَمْ مَدُنْ ، فتكتب مقطعين بدلاً من مُـحَمْمَدُن ووزنها مفاعلن كما يفعل العروضيون . وهو بهذا يكون قد أسس نهجـًا متميزًا عن غيره ؛ حيث كانت الكتابة العروضية كتابة متصلة لا تنتهي إلا بانتهاء التفعيلة . والكتاب - على صغر حجمه - عظيم الفائدة ؛ إذ يؤسس هذين النهجين المتفردين في الكتابة العروضية ، وقد وفَّق اللـَّه المحقق في الكشف عنهما ، والتنبيه على أهميتهما وعرضهما العرض المناسب.
