يتميز العصر الحالي بالإنفجار العلمي والتكنولوجي الذي وصلت إليه كثير من بلدان العالم والذي يشكل بعداً أساسياً ومهماً من أبعاد الحياة المعاصرة.

ولا شك أن تلك التطورات والتغيرات تلقى بثقلها على المعلم الذي يجب أن يعد تلاميذه كي يكونوا مواطنين صالحين وهذا لن يتأتى إلا بتطوير أساليبه التدريسية والإبتعاد عن الأساليب التقليدية في التدريس والإهتمام بالأساليب التي تشجع المتعلم على التفكير السليم والقدرة على حل المشكلات.
وفي ظل تلك المتغيرات والتطورات نرى أن أهمية القراءة تزداد يوماً بعد يوم على الرغم من النمو المعرفي، والتقدم التقني، الذي ساهم في نقل المعرفة والثقافة، وتطور تقنية المعلومات والإحتفاظ بها وسرعة إسترجاعها بكل يسر وسهولة.
لذا، فإننا نجد أن القراءة لم تفقد مكانتها ولم تتراجع عن أداء دورها في نشر التعليم، والمعرفة، والثقافة من جيل لآخر.
لذا، كان من الضروري تدريب المعلمين على الإستراتيجيات الحديثة ومنها إستراتيجيات تدريس القراءة والفهم القرائي التي من شأنها أن تنمي مهارات الفهم القرائي لدى المتعلمين من خلال تدريبهم على كيفية تناول النص القرائي مع الأخذ في الإعتبار إستراتيجيات عمليات القراءة الخاصة بالتلاميذ، ومن أهم هذه الإستراتيجيات المستخدمة في تدريس الموضوعات القرائية المحددة (KWLH) (علاقة السؤال بالجواب - المنظمات المتقدمة)، والتي تضمنها هذا الكتاب.
