فى رواية (مقهى قدوس حنين) يتجمع عالم بأكمله، بكافة تناقضاته؛ ليبقى المقهى ميدانا للتذ كر والأسى والفضح، المقهى ـ كما مصرـ مفتوح على كافة الاتجاهات والميادين، يجمع البشر من عوالم متخالفة متنازعة؛ لكن يجمعها هذا البوح العجيب لدى (قدوس حنين) رغم اشتعال الرواية بلمحات عن طوفان المد الدينى الشكلى الذى غرقت فيه مصر بعد النكسة، لكنها لا تنسى أن (العذراء والمسيح قد مرا من هنا)، وتنجح الرواية بشكل ملحوظ فى توظيف النص الإنجيلى (رؤيا يوحنا اللاهوتى) توظيفًا يتسق مع الجو العجائبى الغرائبى فى الرواية، حين نجد (صفاء) تتحول إلى بومة كبيرة، ينمو لها جناحان، وتحلّق ناقرة الشمس ناهشة القمر، شخصيات الروائي رضا عودة مذبوحة ذبحًا بعيشتها، للقط ـ كحيوان ـ رمزيته بين الأشخاص، حين يصير مصدر الدفء الوحيد لشخصيات الرواية، هذه الشخصيات المنحوتة من واقع ضبابى دامى ينثال على طول الرواية.
أما بناء العمل، فهو أكثر ما يبهرنا فى هذه الرواية، حيث زاوج بين شكلين، اعتمد فى الفصول الأخيرة على ما يسمى رواية أصوات، لكنه يقدمها بتكنيك مختلف عما سبق تقديمه، ومنحوت بلغة بليغة بالغة الاختصار والدلالة تتجاور المستويات اللغوية فى الرواية بتراض وتعاطف، بين ارتفاع إلى قمة البلاغة العربية القديمة بجمالياتها التقليدية، وبين تشظى البلاغة الجديدة، وإنهاء التبعية القديمة للعادات اللغوية المتبعة، من خلال لغة مباشرة صادمة، تتحول اللغة الفصحى على لسان الشخصيات المقهورة إلى ما يشبه السخرية من ضياعها الإنسانى.
