أصبح مرض الإيذز اليوم مشكلة صحية عالمية تتزايد حدتها يوما بعد يوم منذ ظهر لأول مرة في بداية الثمانينات.
وتهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى ما يلي:- أ- دراسة مرض الإيدز في العالم من منظور مكاني Spatial من وجهة نظر الجغرافيا الطبية.
ب- التأكد على أن دراسة الإيدز وغيره من المشكلات الصحية - يجب أن تكون في ظل نهج بيئي interdisciplinary بدلا من الدراسات أحادية النظرة.
ت- إبراز دور علم الجغرافيا في فهم مشكلة الإيذز مما يسهم في فهم أشمل للمرض ودور الجغرافيا التطبيقي في حل المشكلات العالمية والبيئية.
ث- ربط تحليلات وأبعاد مرض الإيدز بنظريات الجغرافيا ومناهجها المتفردة التى تضفي على تناول الموضوع منظورا مختلفا عن المنظور الطبي السائد عن المرض. جـ- إبراز خطورة وضع منطقة الخليج العربية بالقرب من مناطق موبوؤة بالإيدز مثل تايلاند والهند بحكم موقعها الجغرافي.
