ومع أن أنطوان دي سانت إكسوبري اشتهر بروايته الجميلة «الأمير الصغير» والتي نشرت بأكثر من مائة وخمسين لغة عبر العالم كله إلا أن كثيرا من النقاد يعتبرون رواية القلعة هي رائعته الحقيقية والتي جمع فيها فلسفته وحكمته التي استغرقت عمرا بطوله.
ولد أنطوان دي سانت إكسوبري عام 1900 بفرنسا وكان طيارا ومغامرا جاب بقاع العالم كله بطائرته الصغيرة، وكتب العديد من القصص والروايات. نشر له منها 10 روايات قبل أن يلقى حتفه إثر سقوط طائرته أثناء رحلة جوية في شمال أفريقيا عام 1944. وقد نشرت روايته القلعة بعد وفاته فأكدت مكانته الأدبية البارزة على الساحة العالمية؛ حتى قيل إن حجم ما كتب عنه في السنوات العشر التي أعقبت وفاته قد بلغ ضعف ما نشره وهو على قيد الحياة.
