على الرّغم من أنّ هذه المنطقة تجذّر اسمُها في أعماق التارسخ منذ قرون؛ فإن الأقلامَ لم تعطها ما تستحقُ من التأريخ والإعلام، فقد كانت المبادرةُ الأولي، ومن داخل المنطقة نفسها، هي ما قام به نادي سماهيج من إصدار كتاب "سماهيج في التاريخ" الذي أعدّه الأستاذ المرحوم سلمان داود عبد اللّه عام 1996م، ومع ما لهذا الكتاب وما عليه، إلا أنّه كان الخطوة الأولى في هذا الإتّجاه، وفتح الشهيّة للكتابة عن هذه المنطقة والتأريخ لها، فكان بعده كتاب (البلدة المأهولة) عام 2009م الذي أعدّه الباحث الأستاذ جعفر يتيم خطوة أُخرى.
وها هو الأستاذ جعفر يتيم المُتيم بتراث هذه الأرض الطيبة، ومآثر الآباء والأجداد؛ ينتهي به هذا الهُيام والحب مرّة أُخرى إلى أن يطأ قلمُهُ أرضاً بكراً؛ لم يطمث ترابَها قبله قلمُ إنس ولا جان؛ ويقتحم الجغرافيا الساحلية بقوة وجرأة بكتابه (المعالم الساحلية)، ليشعل ذاكرة الأجيال المتعاقبة حول قدرات آبائهم في هندسة البيئة البحرية وطن مهنتهم الرئيسية، في سواحلها وأعماقها، واعتماد أسماء محدّدة بعينها لها خصائصُها وسماتُها، بل تسمية ممرات (الأبواب) ليستعين بها البحارةُ في أثناء ارتيادهم البحر للبحث عن أرزاقهم من الصيد، إنّها خريطةٌ بقسمات وجودها تحت الموج وفوقه.
هذه البانوراما الجغرافيا التاريخية التي رسمها الباحث بقلمه، وبلغه تكاد تكون سهلة ممتنعة، تعكس ثقافية ذهنية موغلة في الأصالة والقدم، وتمهيداً لثقافة ممتَّدة تتسلل بمصطلحاتها إلى الجيل المعاصر يستكنهُ من خلالها قدرات الأوائل في رسم مسارات وقائع دورات حياتهم في البحر وإيقاعها؛ مما يعّزز في نفوسهم الثقة بالذات، وترسيخ الأصالة بجذورهم، وكيف انهم حفروا صور بصماتهم حتى في البحر فضلاً عن البر؛ لتبقى شاهداً حيّاً لا تستطيع الأمواج الهائجة ولا الرياح العاتية أن تمحو تلك المعالم (المعالم الساحلية).
