ولد دانيال ديفو مؤلف هذه الرواية في لندن، في عائلة كان سيدها تاجر لحوم. بدأ حياته العملية عندما اتخذ بيع الجوارب مهنة له، وسافر من أجل ذلك في أنحاء أوروبا. كان السفر شأناً من أعظم الشؤون في حياته، وكان لديه أيضاً اهتمام فعلي بالصحافة والسياسة. كتب مقالات وأشعاراً هاجمت أفكار الناس المسبقة، الأمر الذي أغضب الملكة آن، وأدى إلى زجه في السجن عام 1702. أنشأ بعد إطلاق سراحه عام 1704 دورية دعاها المجلة "The Revieu"، وكان لهذه الدورية تأثير قوي في أوساط المعارضين لسلطة المحافظين. تقوم شهرة دانيال ديفو على روايته الخالدة "روبنسون كروز"، التي تروي قصة بحار غرقت سفينته فلجأ إلى جزيرة نائية ليعيش مع خادمه "جمعة" فترة من الزمن في معزل عن العالم المتحضر.
وما يميز هذه الطبعة التي بين أيدينا من القصة هو أنها جاءت باللغتين العربية وما يقابلها باللغة الإنكليزية، وإنها جاءت مزودة بتدريبات شاملة لمحاور القصة كلها، هذا فضلاً عن الأسلوب الميسر في ترجمتها والذي روعي فيه السلاسة في العرض في التعبير والابتعاد عن المفردات الصعبة وذلك ليتمكن طالب المعرفة من حفظ أكبر عدد ممكن من المصطلحات كما ويمكنه من المقابلة الدقيقة بين المفردات والأساليب والمعاني، وصولاً إلى تمكنه من الموازنة بين المفردات والتي توصله التعلم اللغوي وفقاً للأسلوب السليم والموجه.
