"أوراق في علم الاجتماع: الفلسفة. المشوشات. التوازن"، وكما يشير العنوان فهو كتاب متنوع الاختصاصات المعرفية وفيه من كل العلوم: الفلسفة والاجتماع والنفس والتاريخ والأدب والفن وما يتصل بها من موضوعات.
قدم المؤلف لكتابه بمقدمة ومما جاء فيها: "... إن الكتاب الحالي مُستند إلى الكتاب السابق "قواعد الجنون الأربعون: في الفلسفة، وعلم النفس المعرفي" كممثل للخواطر ولكن بنوعٍ من الاتساق واللاتكرار... إنّه طبعة ثانية منقّحة على الرغم من تغيّر العنوان، أو أنّه جواب صريح ونقدٌ له؛ وللعلم فالكتابين لهما لحن قريب، والكثير من الكلمات والجمل متطابقة ولكن التوزيع بالطبع مختلف. والموضوع عزيزي القارئ ليس: "ما الجديد من القديم"؟ ولكنّ الموضوع "ما الصواب"؟
إن فصول الكتاب وإن بدت عناوينها مختلفة إلا أن أفكارها تنسجم مع بعضها بعضاً وأحياناً تتكرر، لأن كافة العلوم وإن بدت أسماؤها مختلفة إلا أنها متداخلة، لاسيما علم الاجتماع الذي يتداخل مع كل العلوم. إذاً مزج العلوم وتداخلها هو مفتاح الكتاب؛ إن جذور الأشياء وأصلها واحد...".
يتألف الكتاب من ثلاثة أبواب، الباب الأول في "الفلسفة" ويحتوي عدة فصول يشرح الفصل الأول مفهوم الطيبة وأنها الأصل، بينما يتحدث الفصل الثاني عن وهم الفردية، أما الفصل الثالث فيتناول موضوع الأسرة باعتبارها لبنة المجتمع، وفي الفصل الرابع مقالات عن البيئة المحيطة وتأثيرها، وفي الفصل الخامس موضوعات عن ما وراء الطبيعة وأثر الفلسفة في المجتمعات. ويختص الباب الثاني بأبرز المشوشات والعوائق التي تضر بالمجتمع، كل مشوش في فصل وجاءت تحت عناوين رئيسة هي: العنصرية، التسويف، الثأر والإباحية، الخوض في الباطن، مزج السياسة بالدين، معضلة الملك، الرأسمالية والهيمنة جوجل مثالاً، فلسفة الشر. وجاء الباب الثالث والأخير بعنوان "التوازن" ويتحدث بصفة عامة عن المهمشين كالمجانين والمدمنين ووجوب احتوائهم، وعن التأثير الفكري لفيزياء الكم على العلوم الاجتماعية ومبدأ عدم التيقن، وعن وهم التحكم واستبداله بالتوازن البيئي.
