لقد كان من الطبيعي جداً في ذلك العهد ألا يفعل أهلي شيئاً يعوقني عن إغتنام مثل تلك الفرصة الذهبية التي قلما يُتاح مثلها لولد مثلي في ألمانيا سنة 1933، عندما كان الحزب النازي يومئ بالمستقبل المزدهر.
كان هتلر مزمعاً أن يجمع كل شباب ألمانيا صفوفاً متراصة، وكان إيماننا بهتلر إيماناً كاملاً وثيقاً، ولم يكن بوسع أحد من هم أكبر سناً أن يقدم لنا نصيحة بأن نسعى إلى مستقبلنا ونحن بمنأى من هذا الحزب.
