يعد علم تعبير الرؤيا واحد من علوم الشريعة التي اهتم بها السلف الصالح. إذ أن الرؤية الصادقة هي أول ما بدأ به رسول الله من الوحي، فكانت هي آخر ما بقي من النبوة. ولما كانت للرؤية هذه المنزلة في الإسلام، اهتم علماء كثيرون بهذا الفن ومن ضمن ما جاء في تعبير المنامات منظومة إبن الوردي حيث برع في صياغة منظومة علمية فريدة سماها (الألفية الوردية) وفيها عمل على تأويل الرؤى نثراً وشعراً. وجاء تحقيق الأستاذ "طارق بن سعيد بن سالم آل عبد الحميد" من أدق الشروحات التي تناولت هذه المنظومة، أداها بأمانة، وكشف غوامضها، وشرح غريبها بعد أن اطلع على نسخ الكتاب الخطية الأربع. يقول: "كان أول ما قصدت إليه أن أقدم نصا صحيحا من الأرجوزة، فقابلت بين النسخ ورجعت فيما غمض منها إلى متن الشرح وإلى كلام الشارح، وقد حل كثيراً من المشكلات التي كان من الصعب حلها بدونه، ولم أخرج عنه في شرح الغوامض إلا إذا لم أجد فيه ما يوضح بشكل كافٍ (...)وحرصت أن أستشهد بالصحيح بل بالأصح من حديث رسول الله (ص) فكان جله من صحيح البخاري، والحافظ إبن حجر في فتح الباري وما يحشد من كلام الشراح والمحققين ...". هذا وقد علق المحقق أيضا على ما أورده الناظم من حديث النبي (ص) بالغزو وبيان الحكم من أئمة الشأن، إضافة إلى تعريفات موجزة لمن ذكرهم إبن الوردي من الأعلام، وخصص ثلاثة من أعلام المعبرين بترجمة مستقلة؛ لما لهم من أهمية وهم: دانيال، وإبن سيرين، وأبو سعيد الواعظ ...
من محتويات الكتاب نذكر: ترجمة المصنف، شروح الألفية، وصف النسخ، منهج التحقيق، فضل الرؤيا، الفرق بين الحلم والرؤيا، رؤية النبي، المنظومة وفيها أبواب منها: باب أدب المعبر، باب أدب النائم، باب رؤية الله تعالى والعرش والكرسي ... الخ، الباب المترجم ترتيبه على حروف المعجم ويبدأ من حرف (الألف) ... إلى حرف (الياء) . وأخيرا الفهارس الفنية للكتاب.
