مِن أشهر كُتُبِ عِلْمِ النَّقْطِ والشَّكْلِ، أو عِلْمِ الضَبْطِ، وكان أَوَّل مَن صَنَّفَ في هذا العلم الخليل بن أحمد الفراهيدي، ثم صَنَّفَ بعدَه جماعةُ من النحويين والمقرئين لكنْ لم يصل إلينا من تلك المؤلفات التي ترجع إلى ما قبل عصر الداني إلا القليل، واستطاع الداني أَنْ يُعَوِّضَنَا بكتابه "المحكم" تلك الأصول المفقودة، بإعتماده كل كُتُبِ سابقيه، فَنَقَلَ نصوصاً وافية منها.
وتمتاز هذه الطبعة من كتاب "المحكم" عن سابقاتها بثلاثة أمور:
الأول: أنها الطبعة الأولى الكاملة للكتاب.
الثاني: الإعتماد على ست مخطوطات للكتاب.
الثالث: جودة الإخراج، مع ضبط النص، والتعريف بالأعلام.
والكتاب تحفة علمية أبدعها الإمام "أبو عمرو الداني الأندلسي"، ينبغي أن تزدان بها مكتبات المهتمين بقراءة القرآن الكريم، والمشتغلين برسم المصحف وضبطه، والمتخصصين بالكتابة العربية وإملائها.
