يجمع هذا الكتاب بأجزائه الستة شرحاً لديوان الشاعر "علي بن المقرب العيوني" المتوفى سنة (630هـ) والذي يرجع بنسبه إلى العيونيين من بني عبد القيس، الذين حكموا الإحساء في تلك الفترة بعد إنتزاعها من القرامطة، وهو شاعر الدولى العيونية ويعتبر ديوانه والشروحات التي أرفقت به من أهم المصادر حول تاريخ تلك الدولة. ولأهمية هذا الديوان دأب الأستاذ عبد الخالق بن عبد الجليل الجبنبي إلى شرحه وتهذيبه وترتيبه ألفبائياً بعد مقابلته ومراجعته لثمان وعشرين مخطوطة له بالإستناد إلى نسخة المكتبة الرضوية وهي النسخة الأصل لهذه الطبعة، بالإضافة إلى الطبعة الهندية، بعد ذلك عمد الشارح إلى التحقيق من صحة الألفاظ لغوياً، وضبط الكلمات التي يحتاج إلى ذلك بالشكل، ووضع علامات الترقيم وأساسيات الكتابة من فواصل ونقاط... وكذلك توثيق الآيات والأحاديث والأمثال والأشعار الواردة في الأصل، والتعريف بأصحاب الشعر الذين وردوا في الشرح، يرافق ذلك الإشارة إلى مصادر الأخبار التاريخية والقصص الوادرة في كلام الشارح، والتعريف بالمواقع الجغرافية التي ذكرت في شعره وشرحها لمعرفة إن كانت لا تزال تعرف بنفس الاسم اليوم أم لا، بالإضافة إلى التعريف بالأعلام البشرية المذكورة عرضاً في الشعر وشرحه ممن ينبغي التعريف بهم بعكس المشهورين منهم، ووضع فهارس فنية خاصة بالآيات القرآنية، وأخرى للأحاديث الشريفة، وتالية للأشعار وللأعلام الوادرة في الأصل من بشر وأمم وجماعات وقبائل وبطون ومواضع... واخيراً وضع دراسة في آخر الكتاب تتحدث عن حياة الشاعر وديوانه ومخطوطات الديوان والشعر المنسوب للشاعر...
