ولم تعرف أمة من الأمم مكانة للعلم كأمة الإسلام، فقد غدت مرتبة العلماء فيها تلي رتبة الأنبياء، حتى لقد نافت منزلة العلماء في نفوس الناس على منزلة الحكام والأمراء، فأخرجت هذه الأمة علماء أفذاذاً، تركوا لنا تراثاً ضخماً من المؤلفات، وكان من هؤلاء العلماء الكبار الذين تركوا بصمات واضحة في المخزون المعرفي لهذه الأمة الإمام العلائي، فهو عالم متمكن في العلم، متفنن في التأليف، زادت مؤلفاته على الستين، في التفسير والحديث والفقه وأصوله والعربية وغير ذلك.
ومن مؤلفاته هذا الكتاب، جمع فيه ما ورد إليه من مسائل واستفتاءات مهمة جاءته من بلاد عدة، وهو كتاب ثرٌّ غني، ينضح بالفوائد، ويزخر بمسائل فرائد، بذل الإمام فيها جهده، وأدلى بدلوه، مبيناً وجه الحق فيها، موفياً البحث في جوانبها.
