يفرض موضوع الكتاب العديد من التساؤلات حول حتمية الصدام الحضاري والصراع الدولي في شرق آسيا, أو ما يمكن أن نطلق عليه التحول الحضاري من الغرب الي الشرق . في ضوء الرؤية الصينية للصعود أو القطبية والتنافس أو الصراع مع الجانب الأمريكي, وتحديدا في منطقة شرق آسيا التي تمثل بؤرة إنفجار الشرق الآسيوي, الذي يعد النفوذ السياسي أو السيطرة عليه مؤشرا قويا لقوة القطب القادم. والكتاب يتعرض فى مجمله لتحليل مختلف جوانب الاستقرار والتغيير المرتبط بالعلاقات بين الصين والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية التي تحاول عرقلة وتقويض القوة الصينية الصاعدة وتحجيم دورها العالمي, وذلك من خلال فرض العقوبات والضغط عليها فى قضايا الديمقراطية, وحقوق الإنسان, وإستقلال تايوان, وكذلك العمل على دعم التحالف الأمريكى مع القوى الأخري فى آسيا , ومحاولة بسط النفوذ الأمريكي فى المجال الحيوي للتحرك الصيني فى الإطار الإقليمي. كما يكشف الكتاب عن طبيعة تلك العلاقات الصينية – الأمريكية كونها متأرجحة مابين الصراع والتعاون, إذ لايمكن وصفهما على أنهما عدوين, وكذلك لا يمكن وصف علاقاتهما على إنها علاقة صداقة. في ظل التطورات والتغيرات في الأحداث والظروف التي تشهدها البيئة الدولية التي تتسم بالتعقيد والفوضي والديناميكية .
