مهاتما غاندي السياسي الأبرز والقائد الروحي للهند خلال حركة استقلالها الذي نادى بالساتياغراها وهي مقاومة الاستبدال في الهند من خلال العصيان المدني أثر في العالم اجمع منذ صعوده حتى هذه اللحظة وبعد وفاته بعقود إلى جانب الكتب المنشورة له قام غاندي بترجمة الجيتا ( الكتاب المقدس للهندوس ) إلى الغورجارتية وهي اللغة المحلية فى الهند لولاية كجرات.
وفي عام 1919م أصدر غاندي جريدة young India الأسبوعية والتي كان يعرض فيها أفكاره الرئيسية حتى عام 1931م وأصدر أيضا جريدة jan Hari الأسبوعية باللغة الإنجليزية في عام 1933م إلى جانب صحف أخرى.
يستمد هذا الكتاب معظم مادته من الصحيفتين الوارد ذكرهما سابقا باستثناء بعض المقالات وجميعها لم تتم ترجمتها للعربية من قبل .
كل المبادئ التي طبقها غاندي في الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية كان لها أسس روحية ودينية قوية وهذه الأسس هي التي عظمت تأثير هذه المبادئ وربما يكون هذا الكتاب بمثابة تسليط للضوء على هذه الأسس الراسخة لغاندي والتي كرس حياته لها تماما واعتبرأن كل مايفعله على الصعيد السياسي ما هو إلا شكل من أشكال بحثة عن الحقيقة والله وكان يؤمن أنه من الممكن العيش وفقا لحياة روحية وأخلاقية وتطبيق ذلك على المجال السياسي أيضا لذلك علينا إقامة ملكوت السماوات في السياسة أيضا.
