تلاحقت الصور أمام عينيها: صور أمها، أبيها، سالم، عمها، الجنود، البنادق، شظايا الزجاج المهشم، صرخت بصمت وهي تضم مريم وتغمض عينيها ""يكفي..."" تموء كقطة أضاعت جراءَها، تمتص حنجرتها بهذا المواء فلا مجال للأصوات العالية، ولا البكاء الفاجر، وإذا احتاج الأمر ستنكمش على نفسها وتبرز أشواكها، فلن تسمح للركام بأن يسخر منها، وسوف تتقمص صمته، فكم هو بارع ويتقن لغة الحكماء.
سكنت الجلبة في القرية بعد ظهر ذلك اليوم، وانتهت المعركة بمجزرة تكدست بها الجثث في الطرقات وداخل البيوت ولم تجد من يدفنها، فقامت العصابات بمحاولة لحرقها وكانت محاولة فاشلة فانتشرت رائحة الدماء مع رائحة شواط الأجساد.
غادر على جمر الألم من غادر إلى قرية عين كارم وتشرد أيتام القرية في شوارع القدس يبكون أبًا وأمًّا، ومنهم من بكى عائلته بالكامل، نعم بعض العائلات لم يخرج منها حي واحد.
كانت شمس ذلك اليوم قد أشرقت عن صباح رمادي قاتم على قرية كانت بين فكي كماشة، فمن جهة عصابة شتيرن والإرغون بدعم من العصابة الأضخم الهاجاناه، ومن جهة ثانية نفاد الذخيرة.
قرية اغتصبت على حواف بنادق خانتها رصاصاتها…"
