لانصولو ولِيوني طفلان من أب عالم باحث، تعرّض لمؤامرة من الأوساط العلميّة والإعلاميّة، فانطوى على نفسه في بيته. وفي إحدى الأوقات العصيبة، التي كادت فيها ليوني، بسبب قدرتها الباهرة على الحفظ، أن تتعرض للاختطاف والحجز، ساعدتهما تامييل على الهرب، وفرَّت معهما من السّيرك الذي كانت محتجزة فيه. وتامييل فتاة سليلة بطن من بطون شعب الأطلنتس، وهي حضارة غرقت من آلاف السنين، واستقرت في أعماق المحيط.
وبسبب تلّوث مياه المحيطات وتزايد حموضتها، تتعرض الكائنات البحرية للتّشوّه، ما اضطر تامييل إلى الخروج من الأطلنتس بحثاً عن دواء ناجع لها. وفي خضم مغامراتها ولقائها بلانصولو وليوني، سيعي الثلاثة أسباب التلوث ومصادره، كما أنهم سيكتشفون -أيضاً- الظلم الذي تعرض له والد لانصولو، الذي كان يجري أبحاثاً هامة، للبرهنة على وجود علاقة بين تفاقم نسبة الغاز الكربوني وحموضة المحيطات وأثرهما في الكائنات البحرية.
ومن مغامرة إلى أخرى، يتحوّل لانصولو إلى مناضل بيئي كما كان أبوه. وهكذا سيقوم هو وزملاؤه في المدرسة بأعمال الغرض منها تقليل انبعاث الكربون المسبِّب للاحتباس الحراري، وسيؤسسون "حلقة أكلة الكربون" لتحقيق هذا الهدف.
