كان الشاب قد اشترك في حرب "فيتنام" وأحب إحدى الفيتناميات وأنجب منها طفلاً ولكنهما قتلا وظل حزيناً عليهما وانعزل في هذا الركن المهجور من العالم. كما أن شقيق "ناتالي" التوأم قتل هو الآخر في حادث سيارة الأمر الذي جعل الشابة تعيش في حزن دائم عليه.
تضطر المحامية للإقامة خمةس أيام في بيت "تروي" حتى يزول الجليد وتعود إلى حياتها الناجحة في المدينة.
ورغم الفارق الكبير بين حياة كل منهما إلا أنهما وقعا في حب بعضهما بعضاً لتتكاتف كل الظروف ضد هذا الحب.
