امتاز طبعه بالمتناقضات الحادة، فهو الذي أنشد للعروبة ثم دعى إلى تبني اللهجة المحكية اللبنانية بدل اللغة العربية، والتي وصفها بالميتة، وللمفارقة هي التي كتب بها أجمل أشعاره التي كتبت له الخلود.
غنت له السيدة فيروز العديد من القصائد والتي كان من أجملها قصائده عن دمشق ومكة وغيرها من المدن والدول العربية.
سعيد عقل شاعر مهووس بالجمال، ولكن ليس الجمال الحسي بل الجمال الروحي، وفي هذا الإطار امتاز شعره بالحب الأسطوري، الحب الذي لا تقوى عليه السنين ولا حتى العصور.
أخذ البعض عليه مواقفه السياسية إبان الحرب اللبنانية، ولكن يجب أن لا ننسى أن ظروف الحرب الأهلية بتناقضاتها وتعقيداتها قد تدفع الكثيرين إلى التطرف ولا سيما إذا كان لهم طبع شاعرنا المتسم أساساً بالحدية.
يقدم الكتاب أهم المراحل والإضاءات في حياة وشعر سعيد عقل، كما ويقدم باقة من أجمل ما كتبه الشاعر من نثر وشعر.
