أنهت حكايتها. أحس أن كل ما يمكن أن يقوله سيكون بلا معنى. الشيء الوحيد الذي كان يمكن أن يقوله هو أنه غارق في حبها. لكن شجاعته خانته.
خاف أن يبدو كنهّازِ للفرص، فالحب قد يملي الكثير من الانتهازية في لحظات ضعف من نحب.
لم يفكر حتى أن يسألها عن تفاصيل ما حدث بعد ذلك، كيف كانت ردود فعل كل من لهم علاقة بهما؟ كل ما كان يشغله في تلك اللحظة، أنه يحب هذه المرأة التي تروي له قصة حبها لرجل آخر.
وجد نفسه يتساءل، هل يمكن أن تحبه كما أحبت حبيبها الأول؟ تحايل على نفسه بمقولة أن الحب لا يتكرر بنفس التفاصيل لأنه كالنهر يتغير باستمرار.
رغم ذلك، أحس بشيء من الغيرة من ذاك الحب الذي عاشته في سنين شبابها المبكر، حبها الأول الذي ملأ دنياها وانتهى نهاية درامية تصلح لأن تكون فيلماً سينمائياً من زمن الأبيض والاسود.
حاول أن يتخيل ذاك الحبيب الذي مات وتركها في حزن تلّبسها لسنين، وجعلها ترفض فكرة الارتباط برجل غيره، وصارت أمها تقول لها كلما رفضت عريساً: «على كيفك يمه.
شو بدي أقول، بكرة لما يجي نصيبك رح ترضي وعلى رأي المثل، خلي العسل بجراره لتيجي أسعاره.»
