اليوميات التي اختطها قمقوم في هذا الكتاب كُتبت في لحظة آنية، رصدت العام والخاص، في حياة العراقيين وتأثرت إلى حد بعيد بقضية السجناء السعوديين في العراق منذ عام 2003 مع سقوط النظام العراقي الأسبق بقيادة صدام حسين وحتى العام 2013. في الكتاب تفاصيل دقيقة وقصص واقعية يسجلها الكاتب كانت قد حدثت في العراق وهو يفعل ذلك عن طريق تغطيته لأحداث عاشها كصحفي، حيث تعمّق في هذا الملف وتواصل مع أهالي السجناء في المملكة ومع السجناء في العراق إضافة إلى مصادر أخرى إعلامية.
ما يميّز هذا الكتاب المغايرة التي اعتمدها الكاتب والتي تكمن في الأساس بين الحادثة بصورتها الواقعية (السفر - الحرب - الإعتقال - السجن) والحادثة بصورتها اللغوية المسرودة (اللقاء، الحوار، التفاعل) ، ففي الأولى خضوع لمتطلبات العمل الصحافي، وفي الثانية خضوع لمتطلبات اللغة والفهم والتفسير، فجاء الكتاب بمثابة سيرة ذاتية لكل واحدة من الشخصيات التي تفاعل معها الكاتب وحاول استعادة حياتها بعبارات تصور المعيشي الشخصي، الذي مد (يومياته) بخيوط أشبه بالشرايين الذي تغذي العمل.
وعليه، شكلت كل حالة في هذا الكتاب عنواناً نذكر منها: "الأيام الخوالي" ، "الإنتقال من حياة الريف" ، "الوصول إلى العولمة" ، "تغير الفكر" ، "الشرارة الأولى" ، "سوريا .. الطريق الآمن" ، "الوصول إلى العراق" ، "ليلة القبض على السعودي" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
