"تناولت رواية "فندق السلام" لمؤلفها محمد سعيد جبر الحسناوي أحداث الإنتفاضة الشعبانية في العراق وما حدث من معارك شرسة ضدَّ الطغاة، ثم السيطرة على كل مؤسسات الدولة فيها من قبل أبناء النجف الأشرف، وكيف تم بعد ذلك إختيار هيأة عليا من علماء الحوزة العلمية للإشراف على الإنتفاضة وتنظيم امور الناس.
وعلى الرغم من أنه ليس هناك قيادة موحدة أو قائد معروف مميز لهذه الإنتفاضة فالجميع قاتلوا قتال الأبطال وقاموا مقاومة الشجعان، وكذلك صورت لنا الرواية كلَّ ما جرى في النجف الأشرف من جهاد للحفاظ على شعلة الإنتفاضة المباركة واستمراريتها لتشمل رأس السلطة في بغداد للإطاحة بنظام الحكم...".
لعل هذا التقديم الذي افتتح به المؤلف الحسناوي روايته هو محاولة للكشف عن طبيعة العلاقة بين من يفترض أنه المواطن والدولة بنسختها العربية؛ في مرحلة تغلي بالأحداث السياسية امتدت في الرواية من تسعينيات القرن العشرين وحتى سقوط نظام البعث المتمثل بالرئيس صدام حسين في الــ2003، فالرواية تمور بالأفكار والأيديولوجيات، وتحمل كل شخصية فيها خلفيتها الإجتماعية والمذهبية، حيث يبرز المقدس كأداة للحفاظ على الوطن "وأخيراً تحرك المارد الإسلامي وزحف لقلع جذور الفساد والمفسدين من أرض الشرق والإسلام النجف الثائر".
في مثل هذه الخلفية تنمو حكايات أبطال الرواية، علي وتوفيق عباس وعماد هاوي وعباس فليح وآخرون كانوا ضحايا النظام الإجتماعي والسياسي إما قتلاً أو إغتيالاً، وكانت لكل واحد منهم حكايته الحزينة ولكنهم جميعهم يشكلون أنموذجاً للبطولة والدفاع عن الحرية.
وقد استطاع المؤلف مقاربة تلك الأحداث مقاربة تاريخية وفنية في آن، بما فيها من محطات ووقائع وأحداث وشخصيات حقيقية في المرحلة التي تغطيها الرواية، وبهذه المواصفات وبغيرها، لا تعود رواية "فندق السلام" مجرد سيرة روائية، بل هي أقرب إلى ملحمة، روائية تاريخية ترى الحاضر بعيون جديدة.
