الكتابة والقراءة فنان متداخلان متكاملان، وتتجلى العلاقة العضوية بين القراءة والكتابة في كون إحداهما تمثل جانب الإنتاج اللغوي وهي الكتابة، والأخرى تمثل جانب الاستقبال وهي القراءة، فالقراءة بالنسبة للكتابة هي الينبوع الذي يستمد منه الانسان ثقافته، وأفكاره، والكاتب يستفيد منها في كتابته، ومن قراءته للآخرين.
وانطلاقاً من أهمية العلاقة العضوية بين هاتين المهارتين كان هذا الكتاب الذي سعى لكيفية تعليم القراءة والكتابة لجمهور متنوع من تعليم الأطفال والتلاميذ بمراحل التعليم العام، علاوة على تعليم المبتدئين الصغار، وتعليم الأميين الكبار، وكذا تعليم ذوي العسر القرائي، وتعليم الفائقين لغوياً وذلك بالاستعانة بمجموعة من الألعاب اللغوية التي تتلاءم مع المستوى العقلي واللغوي لهؤلاء الطلاب.
ولقد تضمن الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ الكريم ثمانية فصول، تناول الفصل الاول منه تأصيلاً لفن القراءة. أما الفصل الثاني فقد تضمن المفاهيم الخاصة بالاستعداد للقراءة والكتابة، وتناول الفصل الثالث أسس تعليم القراءة العربية، أما عن الفصل الرابع فقد تناول الكتابة المفهوم والطبيعة، وتتضمن الفصل الخامس الألعاب اللغوية وكيفية الاستفادة من هذه التقنية في تعليم القراءة والكتابة لمختلف مراحل التعليم، وتناول الفصل السادس البطاقات التعليمية ودورها في تعليم المبتدئين الصغار والكبار (محو الأمية)، وتضمن الفصل السابع العسر القرائي تشخيصاً وعلاجاً، فقد تناول الفصل مشكلات التعثر في النطق والقراءة، وضعف الأداء القرائي، ووسائل تشخيص الأداء القرائي، وأهداف هذا التشخيص، وأسباب التأخر القرائي، وأهم الصعوبات الشائعة في القراءة وكيفية التغلب عليها. أما الفصل الثامن والأخير فقد تناول دروساً إملائية عملية لبعض الظواهر القرائية والكتابية من قبيل كتابة الحروف العربية.
