برزت حركة المقاومة الإسلامية "حماس" بعد اندلاع الانتفاضة الشعبية الفلسطينية، ولم تمض سنة واحدة من عمرها وعمر الانتفاضة حتي ازدادت قوتها وظهر تأثيرتها واكتسبت شعبية واسعة بين الفلسطنين في الأرض المحتلة وفي المنافي والمهاجر، وكذلك بين العرب والمسلمين.
إن دراسة حركة حماس تأخذ أهميتها القصوي من حيث أنها تعالج الظاهرة في أكثر مواقعها سخونة، ففي فلسطين يبدو الصراع صريحاً بين الشرق كله والغرب كله، صراعاً حضارياً وثقافياً واقتصادياً وعسكرياً شاملاً.
وتاتي أهمية هذا الكتاب لكونه أول دراسة شاملة للإخوان الفلسطينيين في مختلف المراحل التاريخية والأماكن الجغرافية التي تواجد فيها الفلسطينيون، كما يسلط الضوء علي مقابلات مع صناع الحدث، كما يبرز الكتاب ولأول مرة نشاط الإخوان في الخارج وتأسيس "الجهاز العام لفلسطين" الذي أصبح يعرف باسم قيادات حماس في الخارج، عموماً فإن الكتاب يزخر بالمعلومات الجديدة والموثقة.
وكان أكثر ما ساعد المؤلف علي إعطاء الصورة الشاملة والمتكاملة والموسوعية هو تجربته الشخصية في صفوف الإخوان المسلمين ابتداء من عام 1980، وتدرجه في مختلف المستويات التنظيمية.
