كانت فكرة هذا الكتاب عبارة عن خواطر وذكريات لبعض أحداث الماضي التي لم ندركها لكننا نستقي منها العبر وتتبين لنا في تفاصيلها الحكمة والعظة، ويمكن أن يستفاد منها إذا استرجعت ونقلت إلى الأجيال الحديثة واللاحقة.
وقد شمل هذا الكتاب بعض الأمثال والأقوال وبعض العادات والتقاليد والأنظمة (السلوم) التي قد تتكرر عند كثيرٍ من القبائل في الإقليم الواحد، وكان الأنموذج هي: "قبيلة السهول" ، وقد أكون غير متخصص في هذا الجانب من الأعراف والتقاليد والعادات، أو باحثاً فيها، لكنها مرت على الذاكرة في أحاديث وقصص سمعتها في مجالس كبار السن والرواة على غير موعد مسبق أو تدوين مقصود، فوضعت منها ما وجدته، وربما تركت الكثير لحين صدور جزء آخر استكمل فيها ما بدأته.
وقد قسمت هذا الكتاب إلى ثلاثة فصول هي على النحو الآتي:
- الفصل الأول: بعض الأعراف والتقاليد والعادات (السلوم).
- الفصل الثاني: بعض الأمثال والحكم والأقوال الخالدة.
- الفصل الثالث: قصص ودلالات.
