لماذا هذا الكتاب؟ وما الذي سيضيفه؟ سؤالان مهمان طرحتهما على نفسي قبل الشروع في كتابته، وكانت الإجابة التي اقتنعت بها هي أنه لا بد من جهد وعمل مخلصين جادين غير منحازين لفكرة بعينها لتبيان الخيط الأبيض من الخيوط الأسود.
عاهدت نفسي أن أكون محايداً، منطلقاً من أسس البحث العلمي الذي يناقش ويعرض الفرضيات، وأن أكون قاضياً يستمع للشاكي والمشتكي، دون أن أصدر حكماً، ليس عجزاً مني بل إنصياعاً للواقع المرير الذي نعيشه، فنحن أمة لم تتعود على النقد الذاتي والنقد، بل نسير على هدي واقع مر مرير مفاده من خالفني الرأي فهو عدوي.
لذلك قررت عقد المحاكمة وجمع الأدلة والشهود والمحامين والإدعاء العام، كما قررت أن تكون المحكمة علنية أمام حشد غفير من الناس لأطلب منهم في نهاية المطاف أن يحكموا بناء على ما سمعوه ورأوه وما تكوّن لديهم من مشاعر.
كتب الكثير عن مشروع الشرق الأوسط الكبير أو الجديد لا فرق، وهناك دراسات، والأغرب أن هناك شواهد رأيناها على أرض الواقع، بدءاً بتداعيات إحتلال العراق ربيع 2003، وإنتهاء بتداعيات إتفاق نيفاشا 2005 بين شمال السودان وجنوبه، مروراً بما يحدث هذه الأيام تحت مسمى "الربيع العربي".
