Le shoix des textes et faits rapportes dans ce livre a ete guide par un triple souci:
1 - Donner au lecteur une vue d'ensemble de l'Islam et de ses differents developpements;
2- Ouvrir au lecteur la voie vers la recherche personnelle et approfondie sur le sujet general ou les differents themes qui y sont traites;
3- Mettre en exerguel les principaux points que les livres d'hitoire traditionnels ont negliges volontairement ou involontairement.
